A man who tried to kill his former psychiatrist has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, Palm Beach County State Attorney Alexcia Cox announces.

Pedro Delaflor was previously convicted by a jury of attempted first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm.

The shooting happened on June 14, 2023, in the parking lot of an office building in downtown Delray Beach. The victim was not injured, and Delaflor was apprehended a short time after fleeing the crime scene.

On January 29, the court imposed the mandatory minimum 20-year prison sentence, to be served day for day with no gain-time, to be followed by 10 years of probation.

This case was investigated by the Delray Beach Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Natalia Savchyk and Jenica Lopez.
