A former home health aide who pawned rings belonging to a man in his care has been sentenced to four years in prison, the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office announces.
On July 15, a jury found Kenvosierrah Q. King guilty of two felony counts of exploitation of an elderly person or disabled adult and two felony counts of false verification of ownership.
King’s prison term is to be followed by three years of probation, with special conditions including restitution and a prohibition from working with vulnerable adults.
On November 24, 2023, the 85-year-old victim discovered that six rings — one valued at $3,000 — and a gold coin were missing from his residence. Investigators from Jupiter Police Department discovered King had pawned the rings at a local pawn shop and attempted to sell the coin.
The case marked the first conviction in an elder exploitation case for the Special Prosecution Division at the State Attorney’s Office. Deputy Chief Assistant State Attorney Stacey Ibarra prosecuted the case, and she leads the division, which includes units focusing on elder crimes and other offenses.
