Palm Beach County State Attorney Alexcia Cox today announced that a Palm Beach County grand jury has indicted Josue D. Mendez-Sales, 27, and Pablo N. Cobon-Mendez, 23, on multiple counts of sexual battery on a child under 12.

The indictment follows an investigation by the West Palm Beach Police Department, which began after the 7-year-old victim disclosed the abuse to trusted adults. Both defendants were arrested on August 14, 2025, and remain held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail.

• Mendez-Sales has been charged with two counts of sexual battery on a person less than 12 years of age.
• Cobon-Mendez has also been charged with two counts of sexual battery on a person less than 12 years of age.

Statement from State Attorney Cox: “My office pursued an immediate grand jury indictment for two individuals who committed a heinous crime against a child.  These allegations represent the most serious and disturbing violations of a child’s safety and trust. Their actions warrant punishment to the fullest extent of the law. Our children are precious and those who prey on them will be met with the full weight of the law.

We extend our thanks to our partners in law enforcement for their efforts in investigating this case and arresting these individuals. Now, my office will move swiftly in seeking the most aggressive punishment allowed under Florida law. Let me be clear, heinous and cruel crimes, like sexual battery on our children, will never be tolerated in our community.”

These cases will be prosecuted by the Special Victims Unit of the State Attorney’s Office.
