Robert A. Levine, 77, was convicted on one count of aggravated battery (deadly weapon) after a four-day trial. He was acquitted of two other counts: aggravated battery with a firearm, and discharging a firearm in public.

The case involved allegations from the early evening of April 24, 2022: The victim, 67, was walking his dog near the 15th hole when Levine approached on a golf cart, starting a confrontation involving gunfire and a golf club.

The jury returned the verdict after more than six hours of deliberations over two days.

We thank the jurors for their careful consideration of the case. This type of violence is unacceptable anywhere, especially in a community where seniors expect to feel safe.

Circuit Judge Daliah Weiss presided over the trial and scheduled a sentencing hearing for March 27. The charge is punishable by up to 15 years in prison; state guidelines call for a minimum term of two years.

Assistant State Attorneys Barry Maxwell and Gabriel Montiel prosecuted the defendant and obtained justice for the victim.
