The Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office announces that a jury has convicted a defendant of two second-degree felony counts after a three-day trial.

It was the first felony trial held since State Attorney Alexcia Cox was sworn into office on Jan. 7. This was also the first trial of the year for a prosecutor assigned to the newly established Guns, Gangs & Drug Trafficking Unit.

The defendant was found guilty of one count of possession of cocaine with intent to sell and one count of felon in possession of a firearm or ammunition.

The charges are together punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Circuit Judge Howard Coates scheduled the defendant to be sentenced on Feb. 28.
