Tranquilino Gonzales, 54, was convicted of Sexual Battery (victim 18 years of age or older).

The victim bravely testified at the trial that she became pregnant and had a baby as a result of the attack. Proof of paternity also was presented as evidence during the trial.

The jury reached its verdict on Thursday after about eight hours of deliberations. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 24. The defendant is facing up to 15 years in prison.

Assistant State Attorney Gabriel Montiel prosecuted the case with Special Victims Unit Chief Lindsay Bruno.
