A Palm Beach County jury today returned a guilty verdict in the trial of a man whose brutal attack on a woman two years ago left her paralyzed, the State Attorney’s Office announces.

Jose Carmen Malagon, 61, was convicted of attempted first degree murder with a firearm, and sexual battery while in possession of a firearm.

The victim bravely testified about the August 2023 violent incident, which happened in a Jupiter-area apartment she rented from the defendant. She was shot in the back and then sexually assaulted.

Following the verdict, the court declared Malagon a sexual predator. Sentencing is pending.
