A man was sentenced on Friday to 30 years in prison, a week after a jury found him guilty of carjacking, the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office announces.

The court sentenced Menard Pierre as a Prison Release Reoffender, based on a finding by the jury that the carjacking was committed within three years of his release from prison. The sentence is to be served day for day without any gain time.

On the morning of Nov. 18, 2024, Pierre was fleeing from Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office deputies when he took control of a woman’s SUV. The victim, who was on her way to work as a middle school teacher, ran to safety.

Deputies surrounded the SUV near the intersection of Okeechobee Boulevard and Haverhill Road. Pierre fled on foot but was apprehended and arrested.

Assistant State Attorney Weir King from our Violent Repeat Offender Unit, and Assistant State Attorney Adam Bernstein, prosecuted the case.
