A man received a life sentence today for a brutal attack on a woman that left her paralyzed, Palm Beach County State Attorney Alexcia Cox announces.

In August, a jury found Jose Carmen Malagon guilty of attempted first degree murder with a firearm, and sexual battery while in possession of a firearm. The court declared Malagon a sexual predator.

The crimes occurred in August 2023 inside a Jupiter-area apartment the 30-year-old victim rented from Malagon. She was shot in the back and then sexually assaulted.

“The violent and selfish desires of the defendant will impact (the victim) for the remainder of her life,” Assistant State Attorney Nicole Corring wrote in a sentencing recommendation.
